Matt takes charge of first game as full-time Football League referee

Former Greswell Primary School teacher Matt Donohue made his first appearance as a full-time Football League referee at the weekend.

Matt left Greswell in July after eight years' service to pursue his dream of refereeing on a permanent basis. Following his promotion to Select Group 2 of Referees for the forthcoming season, which means he can now officiate Championship, League One and Two fixtures, Matt took charge of the League Two clash between Crewe Alexandra and Plymouth Argyle on the opening day of the season on Saturday.

In a game which ended 3-0 to the Pilgrims, who were backed by more than 1,700 travelling supporters at Gresty Road, Matt issued eight yellow cards and no reds.

Following his promotion, we spoke to Matt about his time at Greswell and his hopes and dreams for the future.
