Police are warning the public to abide by the restrictions in place, after a man from Stalybridge was fined at least £1,000 for breaching quarantine rules.
In a Facebook post, Sergeant Jackson, of Greater Manchester Police's Tameside North and East team, said the man - who hasn't been named - tried to "circumvent the system" and get a Covid-19 test in the hope it would be negative so he could end his quarantine early.
He had returned from a country which hasn't been specified but is on the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO)'s list of countries where 'all but essential travel' is advised and people have to self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival in the UK.
But instead of following the guidelines, the man - after taking his test - went to a pub and it was only afterwards that the result of his Covid-19 test came back positive.
The man in question has received a Fixed Penalty Notice with a minimum fine of £1,000.
Sergeant Jackson added: "Behaviour like this puts the public at huge risk. Yes, there will be some of you out there saying we should be spending our time dealing with ‘real crimes’ but the reality is, this is what we have to deal with at the moment. If people abided by the rules, we would not have to police people breaking them."
