An investigation is under way after a man has died following a two-vehicle collision in Stalybridge.

At around 11.03pm on Sunday evening (9 May), a grey Ford Focus failed to give way at the junction of Bayley Street and Bridge Street, before colliding with an Audi A3.

Emergency services attended and a man, thought to have been an occupant of the Ford Focus, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Audi, a 24-year-old man, suffered minor injuries.

A large police cordon was still in place on Monday morning on Bayley Street, where the road had been closed at the junctions of Dale Street / High Street in both directions. Bridge Street was also closed at the junction of Peel Street in both directions.

The roads have since re-opened.

Greater Manchester Police say enquiries are ongoing in relation to the collision.

PC Darren White, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the victim's family at this terribly difficult time.

"A full investigation is underway and we encourage anyone who witnessed the incident, especially those who may have provided first aid at scene or anyone with information to please get in touch."

Anyone who can help with enquiries should contact police on 0161 856 4741, quoting log 3196 of the 9 May 2021, or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
