Man dies after being hit by a car

A 46-year-old man has died after being involved in a collision with a car in Clayton - just outside Tameside.

It happened at around 6.50am on Sunday morning (4 April) at the junction of Clayton Street and Ashton New Road - close to Clayton Hall Metrolink stop.

Greater Manchester Police say enquiries have established that a blue Seat Ibiza and pedestrian had been in collision.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital but was sadly pronounced dead a short while later.

The driver of the Seat Ibiza remained at the scene to assist police with enquiries.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing, GMP has said.

Sergeant Matthew Waggett, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "First and foremost, our thoughts are very much with family and loved ones of the man who has sadly died this morning. Enquiries are currently ongoing to locate his next of kin.

"We appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of this collision to come forward and speak with police. We're particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or is in possession of dash-cam footage from the area at the time."
