Man arrested after teenager is robbed in Ashton

An 18-year-old man has been arrested after a 16-year-old was chased and robbed by masked thugs on mopeds in Ashton.

The teenage victim was targeted as he walked through the Hartshead estate on Monday afternoon (November 25) at around 2pm.

Police say he had been around the top of St Albans Avenue, near to Lees Road, when he was spotted by four people wearing balaclavas and travelling on two mopeds.

One of the gang jumped off the back of the scooter he was on and started chasing after the boy.

He caught up with the victim, and punched him in the head before stealing the trainers he had in a bag.

The thief then ran off onto Norwich Close and into the clough.

Both mopeds drove away from the scene, both off the estate - one towards Alban Court and the other towards Hurst Cross.

PC Steve Naylor, of GMP Ashton Hurst, said an 18-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident and he remains in custody for questioning.

Police are investigating and urging anyone living on the estate - particularly those on St Albans Ave, Exeter Drive, Salisbury Crescent, Truro Avenue, Westminster Avenue, Winchester Avnuee, Litchfield Avenue - who has CCTV to check their footage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ashton Hurst team via email on ashtonhurst.ward@gmp.police.uk, quoting crime reference number CRI/0066/0010108/19.
