Hyde’s best kept secret is out after teenage batting sensation Luke Young scored his maiden Cheshire County League century, as Hyde strolled to a 137 run victory over Oulton Park on Saturday.
Sixteen-year-old Young may have just broken into the side this season after some impressive displays for Hyde’s 2nd XI over the last two seasons, but this was a performance that surprised no one at the club who have watched him over the last few years. In fact it was his second century of the week having scored 158 for Cheshire u17s against Warwickshire on Tuesday.
After winning the toss Hyde got off to the worst possible start losing skipper Tom Partridge to the very first ball of the game.
However the in-form Young and 18-year-old George Balderson went about building a partnership to put the relegation- threatened visitors on the back foot.
The teenage duo added 120 for the second wicket. Balderson went for 60, but this didn’t affect Luke Young who reached his century off 133 balls.
When he went for a 109 Hyde were well placed at 205-6 and a superb knock from Cole Turner (48no) ensured Hyde posted an imposing 253-7 from their 55 overs.
The second half of the game was all about the class of spinner Danny Cranmer who blew away the Park middle order.
Oulton Park were soon reeling at 32-3, with Glenn Hannah and Jason Whittaker doing the early damage. If things were bleak for Park the game was effectively over as Cranmer claimed 5-17 from nine overs as they slumped to 91-8.
Balderson wrapped up the innings with two wickets for himself as the visitors were all out for just 116, as Hyde claimed the 25 points.
