Litter bugs clean up Mossley grot spot

A group of community-minded volunteers tackled a litter-strewn area in Mossley as part of their plans to make the town a cleaner place.

Mossley Litter Bugs took part in the big Easter litter pick at the green space near Mossley Hollins High School on Huddersfield Road.

The group collected 33 bags of rubbish. Now the volunteers are appealing for residents’ help in keeping the area clean and tidy.

They say:

  • If you walk or play on the field and see litter please pick it up and take it home.
  • If your children are pupils at the school please ask them to put their litter in their pockets and take it home.
  • There’s a litter picking group set up at the school so if your child is annoyed by litter encourage them to join.
  • If you walk your dog on the field please bag it and bin it
  • If you see fly tipping that is too big to tackle please report it using the Fix My Street website or send a photo and location to one of the town’s councillors.

Rachel Summerscales, from Mossley Litter Bugs, said: “Thank you to everyone who helped with this huge clean-up.

“If you’d like to get involved in cleaning up our town then we pick every Saturday morning 10am-noon. Next Saturday we’re meeting at the far end of Waterton Lane. Come and say hello.”

Visit the group’s Facebook page for more details.
