Joel joins Premier League ranks with Burnley

Curzon Ashton defender Joel Senior has taken the next step on his journey to the Premier League after signing for Burnley.

The right-back, 19, has joined the Clarets on a 12-month deal, with an option to sign for a further year upon completion.

Joel, who began his career at Oldham Athletic, before spending time with Maine Road and FC United, played an important role in helping Curzon avoid relegation last season.

Such were his performances for the Nash, Joel was invited to take part in a training sessions with Burnley’s Under 23s and went on to feature in the Clarets’ match-day squad for the final of the Lancashire FA Senior Cup earlier this month.

Upon joining the club, Joel told Burnley’s official website: “I’m delighted. It’s been a long time coming. I’ve been working hard for it for the last three or four years and it’s finally happened,” said Senior, who played for Maine Road, FC United of Manchester and Curzon Ashton after being released by the Latics.

“Burnley have put their trust in me, and I’m delighted to be here.

“A lot of people’s routes have been different and mine has been to come up through men’s football with some good clubs. I’ve finally found Burnley and I’m delighted to be here.

“It’s everything a player could want here and perfect for me to fulfil my potential,” he said of the club’s facilities.

“Compared to where I’ve been it’s completely different, but it’s what I need to develop my game and become the player I want to be.

“I want to come in for pre-season fully fit and be ready to get into the under-23s team and who knows where you can go from there?

“I’ve got to work hard and that starts now. Let’s see where it takes me.”

Curzon Ashton club secretary Rob Hurst said: “We’re delighted for Joel and wish him all the best at Burnley.

“The two clubs enjoy an excellent working relationship, which has again borne fruit, and we’re looking forward to it continuing.”

Burnley will once again stage their Under 23 fixtures at the Tameside Stadium next season.

In other player news, last season’s top goalscorer Oliver Crankshaw has returned to parent club Wigan Athletic.

After signing for Curzon, the 20-year-old quickly made an impression and was snapped up by Wigan’s development squad.

He featured for Latics’ development team and was on the bench for Curzon’s Manchester Premier Cup victory over Mossley.
