Hyde United Welcome Basford United For Curtain Raiser

Hyde United aim to kick off their season with three points at home to Basford United in what will be a tricky game.

Hyde United aim to kick off their season with three points at home to Basford United in what will be a tricky game. Hyde will be looking to build on a solid season in the last campaign and they have recruited well during the summer bringing in players who know how to get out of the division.

It’s been a turbulent few years for Hyde as the club at their peak were in the fifth tier of English football until they fell dramatically down the divisions. Last season was their first back in the Northern Premier League after promotion in 2018, which was a sign the club was back and stable. Last season was an important one for Hyde as the easily consolidated their position within the league and also laid the foundations to potentially push on and progress this coming season.

It will be a different season for Hyde after the sad death of Mark Worthington who became an instrumental figure at the club in regard to the first team and academy. In the wake of his death the club have made changes to the management structure. Darren Kelly has taken up a sporting director role and Dave McGurk becomes first team manager. This will be his first league game and Hyde will be looking to impress.

Basford United represents a big task for Hyde and one that they will want to win in order to make a statement. Basford have spent well since being promoted to the Premier Division in 2018 and narrowly missed out on the play-off places last season after finishing 7th. On the last day of the season, Basford annihilated Nantwich Town 7-3 in a display that proved they would be back stronger this coming season. Basford also has a new manager in the form of ex-Nottingham Forest player and Notts County manager Steve Chettle. This will provide Basford with an extra incentive to hit the ground running and they may also be using a different style of play.

Hyde has no new injury concerns for Saturday’s game and also have two new players poised to make their debuts for the Tigers. Oran Thompson has joined on loan from Huddersfield Town and the club has also signed Martyn Woolford – An experienced forward who has played in the football league.
