Hyde nursery get behind their community

A nursery in Hyde has been busy supporting local causes in the run-up to Christmas.

ABC Day Nursery has been working hard to collect valued donations for their local food bank, in collaboration with another Hyde organisation Cobra Martial Arts.

Children and staff from the Onward Street nursery in the town centre collected generous donations from parents and practitioners, which included essential food items for those who need it most.

Deputy Manager Chris Wood said: "We are so pleased to be able to make this donation to the food bank and help local people in the community. We have been speaking a lot in nursery about food banks and why they are important for many families, so the children understood the significance of our contribution which is brilliant, Daniel from Cobra Martial Arts started the appeal last year, collecting items for the local food banks, it’s such a good cause."

The nursery has also been getting behind the Tameside Christmas Toy Appeal, which is run by Tameside 4 Good and Action Together, and supported by the Tameside Reporter, Tameside Radio and Tameside Council.

It acted as an official drop-off point for donations of new and unwrapped gifts for 0 to 18 year olds, to ensure every child living in poverty in the borough will receive a new toy on Christmas Day morning - something they may not otherwise have.

Manager Amy Wood said: "It has been lovely to see so many families and members of the community donating items to the appeal. The children have loved helping to pack the box and seeing what lovely toys are inside."
