How a Facebook group is supporting local mums

An online parenting group is helping to provide support and advice to mums who need it during these difficult times amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Covid-19 outbreak has made life difficult for us all and it is undoubtedly a tough and stressful period for parents, particularly with young children who have been at home 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Facebook group called ‘Mums and Bumps Chat’ was set up five years ago by Sarah Lang, who runs it with the help of fellow admin team members Sara Lang, Tracey Robinson, Natasha Gibson and Chloëë Cäldë (pictured).

They usually organise local meet-ups for mums in the Tameside and Oldham area - something they hope to be able to arrange again soon.

Sarah said: “We offer advice and support to mums on parenting, pregnancy, birth and mental health. We've also been supporting a lot of mums during the pandemic with home schooling, lockdown meal ideas, supporting pregnant and new mums during this difficult time with lots of feeding and antenatal/post natal support.

“I started the group in 2015 after I wanted to socialise with other mums and attend playdates following the birth of my daughter.

“We then became a support group as well as a meet-up group and, with the help from Tracey, Sara and Natasha they arranged weekly meet-ups in the Tameside, Oldham and Manchester area, which became very popular.

“We are hoping after this crisis is over we can start rearranging regular meet-ups again. We was also chosen by Facebook to feature in a Facebook group advertisement, after being recognised as a supportive, welcoming and friendly group for parents.”

Sarah said that the group will also be introducing a ‘Find a Book’ event soon, which they started last year.

She added: “It gives children the opportunity to get involved in this fun and educational activity. This will encourage reading skills for children being home schooled. For further details of this event, please keep a look out for updates in the Facebook group.”

The Mums and Bumps Chat also ran a 'Find a Book' event for young children last year.
