Healthcare services available during August bank holiday

Local people in Tameside and Glossop are being advised on how and where to access expert medical treatment over August bank holiday weekend (24-26 August 2019).

People are urged to use choose the right medical services and to be mindful that A&E is for serious and life-threatening injuries and conditions only.

A spokesperson from Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning group said:

"If taking medication, where possible, plan ahead to make sure you get any repeat prescriptions ahead of the bank holiday weekend so that you have a good supply.

"If you need a pharmacy on a bank holiday to buy a medicine, have a prescription dispensed, or want to speak to a pharmacist when your doctor isn’t available, there are a number of pharmacies in Tameside and Glossop which are open - meaning you still have access to the same great services that are available throughout the rest of the year. You don't need an appointment – you can just walk in.

"If medical advice is required or you become unwell and your GP surgery is closed, you are advised to first call NHS 111 or go online at 111.nhs.uk, for a fast and easy way to get the right help at any time.

"NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones."

People registered with GP practice in Tameside and Glossop can also visit the Urgent Treatment Centre (including walk-in) at the Tameside Hospital site if their condition is urgent but not life-threatening. The centre is open 9am-9pm every day of the year.
