Have your say on spending priorities

People across Tameside are being asked for their views on what local spending priorities should be.

It's part of what's called the 2020/21 Budget Conversation.

Tameside Council and NHS Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group - which make the Tameside and Glossop Strategic Commission - say it spends £935 million a year on services, from schools and street lights to GP surgeries and mental health.

It adds that both organisations have to develop innovative ways to deliver services and make savings, with the aforementioned figure having been decreased significantly in recent years due to central government cuts.

The Tameside and Glossop Strategic Commission has launched a budget conversation for residents to have their say on what the spending priorities for 2020/21 and future years should be, and submit ideas or suggestions as to how the commission can deliver services more efficiently, save money or raise revenue.

Tameside Council Executive Leader, Cllr Brenda Warrington, said: “We deliver a vast range of services that affect everyone’s lives every day – from schools and libraries to medicines and care for vulnerable members of the community. It’s important to us that residents and workers have an opportunity to give their views on how we continue to deliver and improve upon the services that matter the most to them while also balancing the books on ever reduced funding from central government.”

Ashwin Ramachandra, NHS Tameside & Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group Joint Chair, said: “Together our services support people through every stage of life from giving children the best start to supporting people to stay well and independent into old age. We want people to get involved in having an understanding of how we pay for this on reduced budgets and we want to hear their views on which services are most important to them and how they could be delivered more efficiently.”

Anyone who lives or works in Tameside and Glossop can take part in the budget conversation by completing the online survey at https://www.tameside.gov.uk/budgetconversation2020/21.

The conversation will run until 15 January 2020 and during this time, there will be special sessions with various groups, including Tameside Youth Council and The Grafton Centre, to try to reach as widely into the community as possible.

There will also be public drop in sessions on the following dates, where people can find out more and compete the survey:
