Have your say on future access to contraception

All residents living in Tameside and Glossop are being encouraged to complete an online survey to help shape what contraception services look like in the future.

NHS Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group say they would especially like to hear from people aged 24 and under to find out what the contraceptive needs of young people are and how COVID-19 may have impacted them.

The survey has been developed by the 10 local authorities in Greater Manchester to find out how COVID-19 has impacted residents’ access to contraception - meaning medicines or devices used to prevent pregnancy.

Some people also use contraception for other purposes like preventing Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and menstrual suppression (controlling their periods). There is a question in the survey that asks about why people use contraceptive medicines or products.

Tameside Council and NHS Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group want people to take part regardless of whether or not they use sexual health or family planning services and say the survey findings will help shape future contraceptive provision.

All survey responses are anonymous, people are asked not to provide their name, date of birth or full postcode.  If, for any reason, people do provide something that can identify them it will be removed. All responses are confidential and will not be shared with anyone.

Taking part should take no longer than ten minutes.

Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Population Health, Councillor Eleanor Wills, said: “Some people may not be able to access the contraception services they need at this time. Filling in this survey will help to decide how to improve services for residents and will help to shape what services look like in the future."
