Grant helps church get badly-needed repairs

Mottram Parish Church is getting some badly-needed repairs thanks to a grant by Historic England.

The £21,000 is being spent on replacing perished lead guttering at the eastern end of the north clerestory and replacing dangerous internal plasterwork below the perished gutter.

The plasterwork has already been removed and will be replaced once the wall has dried out.

Work on the guttering is scheduled to take place around now, subject to the weather.

The grant has come from the Covid-19 Emergency Heritage at Risk Response fund launched by Historic England.

The church has also received a thank you card from Samaritan’s Purse for supporting its Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box Appeal.

Church members filled 31 boxes with presents and also sent £110 in donations.
