Gee Cross pupils pay us a visit

Quest Media Network were delighted to welcome Year 5 pupils from Gee Cross Holy Trinity C of E Primary School to our offices recently.

Around 30 pupils and teaching staff travelled from their Higham Lane school in Hyde to our thriving media centre in Cavendish Mill, off Bank Street in Ashton, for a morning trip.

They were given a tour of the facilities, including the Tameside Radio studios and Bird Consultancy offices, during which our editorial, production and sales teams explained how we put together the newspapers every week and work on our growing digital platforms.

The youngsters then split up into groups for individual sessions and embarked on several activities, which included having a go at reading their own news bulletin, identifying key elements in a typical news article and learning how reporting the news has drastically changed in the last 50 years.

Pupils also received a shout-out live on Tameside Radio and were asked to choose a song for Sarah Hall, who presents the We Are Tameside show, to play.

The overwhelming winner of the vote was Billie Eilish’s new James Bond theme song ‘No Time To Die’.

There were lots of smiles on the day and we were thrilled to hear that pupils thoroughly enjoyed the visit, which will help them to create their own newspaper which you will be able to read in the Tameside Reporter in the near future.
