Former Curzon striker Warburton joins Northampton Town on two-year deal

Former Curzon Ashton striker Matty Warburton has joined the professional ranks with Northampton Town on a two-year deal.

The former Nash favourite joins the League Two outfit having played a major role in Stockport County's promotion last season.

Matty, who is a teacher by trade, scored 27 goals to help the Hatters to the National League North title. He was subsequently voted as the Player of the Season.

Upon signing a contract with the club, which comes into effect on July 1st, manager Keith Curle said: "He is a creative player who plays well in the final third and he knows his role in the team. He is a player who wants the ball and he’s what I’d describe as a very brave player. He’s got a good footballing brain and is capable of scoring goals in different ways. We need to score more goals, we need to add goals from central midfield and Matty will help with that.

"We think Matty is a really good signing for us and we are excited about working with him."
