Flood warnings issued for Hyde, Ashton, Denton, Stalybridge and Glossop

The government's flood information service has issued flood alerts for Hyde, Ashton, Denton, Stalybridge and Glossop for the next 24 hours

Persistent rainfall over the last few days has caused water levels to rise in the Rivers Goyt, Tame, Sett and Etherow and their tributaries.

With further heavy rain to fall over the next 12 hours, the environment agency have taken steps to monitor the levels.

Flooding is also expected on low-lying land, roads and farmland over the next 24 hours.

In a statement the environment agency said: "We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue further flood alerts or flood warnings if necessary."

The government's flood information service advises that when a flood alert is issued, people should prepare a bag that includes medicines and insurance documents and continue to check flood warnings.
