First donations are flown in for Sandwich Angels

Hyde's Sandwich Angels have been the first to benefit from the donation of food thanks to a special initiative by Ashton's Indian community.

During the first lockdown Shree Bharatiya Mandal, Indian Association Tameside, appealed to its members for donations for food banks.

Generous donations resulted in more than £2,500 being raised, the result being that several donations were made to the food banks in Tameside and surrounding areas.

Now under a new initiative launched by Manhar Taylor, the Indian community centre opened its doors for the local community to drop off food donations for the food banks and other good causes.

Manhar said: “We are pleased to say this has been very successful, and we have received donations and food items and money and we made our first donation to Sandwich Angels of Hyde last week.

“The Sandwich Angels are only a small community group, manned by volunteers with no wages and they accept food and supermarket vouchers only.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the donors for their kindness and generosity during this difficult time and are hoping for continued support to help others.”

Shree Bharatiya Mandal (SBM) doors are open from 9am to 12.30pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

You can find the centre at 103 Union Road, Ashton.

Anybody who would like to donate can drop off any items of tinned or packaged food to pass onto local under-privileged people and charities in the local community. No meat products are accepted.

Please drop your items in the box provided in the foyer area.

Hyde Sandwich Angels help the homeless, but during lockdown have turned their attention to delivering food items to those most in need.

They are always grateful for donations. For the drop-off address or for the Angels to collect text 07713973640 or to help send an E-Gift Voucher to sandwichangelsgroup@hotmail.com
