Find out how to start a new business

Anyone who wants to know how to start up a successful enterprise can pop into Ashton Library tomorrow (Friday) to find out the answers.

As part of Start-up Day 2019, the Market Place hub in Tameside One will be joining more than 40 public libraries across the UK in opening its doors to local entrepreneurs, as part of a programme dedicated to supporting start-ups and small business owners.

The event, led by the British Library's business and IP centre in partnership with Santander, invites Tameside residents to take the first step towards turning their brilliant idea into a successful enterprise.

To help them on the way, they can get free access to confidential expertise, market research, business databases, panel discussions, networking and talks streamed live from the British Library.

Adding to the day’s magic will be award-winning conjuror Chris Cross. He’ll be performing a short act in libraries from Blackpool to Manchester with a stop-off in Ashton, probably at around 1pm.

Figures recently released by the British Library show that its national network of library-based business and IP centres has helped to create an average of 15 new businesses every working day since 2016. Most of these were started at home.

These new concerns far exceed national success rates, with 90 per cent still trading after three years, compared with the UK average of 60 per cent.
