Fashion brand's donation welcomed by Tameside students

Fashion retailer Boohoo has donated laptops for digitally excluded students at Tameside College and Clarendon Sixth Form College during lockdown.

The company, which is based in Manchester, has donated 25 laptops through the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) tech fund.

These will be distributed to students with little or no access to technology at home, allowing them to learn remotely, download learning materials and research and improve mental health by staying connected to classmates.

To help students across Greater Manchester, the GMCA tech fund appealed to local businesses in the area to donate laptops, tablets and internet dongles.

Boohoo is a global fashion brand aimed at those aged 16-30 and donated devices alongside several other brands to colleges and schools across the region including AutoTrader, Princes Trust and AO.

A lovely note that Boohoo included with each laptop

Ethan Bennett, bricklaying student at Tameside College, said: “This is going to help me with my maths and English work as well as my brickwork theory classes. Not just that though, this is really going to help me with feeling less isolated and I can communicate more easily. Massive thank you to Boohoo for donating the laptops to the college."

Gail Clifford, head of central support and enrichment at Tameside College and Clarendon Sixth Form College, said: “I want to express my sincere thanks to Boohoo for thinking of our students during this difficult time and donating these laptops to the college. These will be allocated to those who need them the most and will make a huge difference to their remote learning experience and mental wellbeing.”

If you are a student and need help with bursaries or access to technology for learning, contact the student services team or call 0161 908 6600.
