Excitement builds ahead of Mossley 10k

Excitement is building ahead the Mossley 10k, which returns to the town for a sixth consecutive year on Sunday, July 14.

The race, which starts and finishes at Mossley AFC's Seel Park ground, with ‘Grandstand Views’ for spectators, is an undulating and picturesque course and takes runners from Upper Mossley, around Lower Mossley and Greenfield with beautiful views of the stunning, countryside around Mossley and Saddleworth.

Hosted by Mossley AFC, the event has become a key date in the running calendar and attracts a good mix of club-class competitors, social runners and charity fundraisers, as well as a number of volunteers who help to marshal the course.

276 runners took part in last year’s event, which included 76 from Mossley Running Club, who won Club of the Year at the 2017 Pride of Tameside Sports Awards, while the Hyde Village Striders were also out in force with 11 runners, and the Greenfield Greyhounds had six representatives.

However, it was American-born Evan Holland who crossed the finish line first in 34.12, while Michael Mannings, who represents Oldham and Royton Harriers, came second in 35.13, and Royton Road Runner Rob James placed third after finishing in 36.05.

Hyde Village Striders’ Vicky Wright retained her crown as the female winner crossing the line in 39.03. She was trailed by Salford Harriers’ Kate Knox and East Cheshire Harriers’ Hayley Simpson, who finished second and third respectively in the female division.
