Even a Dukinfield councillor's retirement is postponed!

The local elections scheduled for May were one of the first things postponed in response to the coronavirus outbreak and for one Dukinfield councillor, that means a delayed retirement.

Cllr Brian Wild was all set to call time on his career as a councillor after 26 years and made an honorary Alderman of the borough.

Naila Sharif had been selected as the Labour nominee to contest the seat, but Cllr Wild has confirmed he will now be staying on for another year.

“It will be great to serve the people of Dukinfield for another year,” he said.

“I was due to retire but that’s been put back now until 2021.

“I can handle with another year alongside Jackie and John although I’m not sure they feel the same!

“I look forward to seeing everyone in the community when all this is over.”
