A local engineering firm has gifted their services to help remove a large steel beam from homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley's community building.
As part of ongoing refurbishment work at Emmaus Mossley, the charity sought help to remove a large steel beam that had been left in the building for many years.
Simon and Chris from Shaw and Sons Engineering Services volunteered their professional services to safely cut and remove the steel beam, saving the charity significant costs.
Simon Shaw from Shaw and Sons Engineering Services commented: “Helping our local community in these bad times is something we were more than happy to do. Emmaus do a lot of good work helping people in need and we’re glad we could give a bit of our time to help the charity out.”
Emmaus Mossley supports 26 formerly homeless people (known as companions) by providing them with a home, work and support in a community setting.

Since the start of the pandemic, the Emmaus Mossley Secondhand Superstore has been forced to temporarily close due to lockdowns, therefore reducing the charity’s income.
Alison Hill, Director of Emmaus Mossley, said: “Due to its size, weight and location within the Emmaus Mossley building we were unable to remove the beam without outside assistance.
“Thanks to the generous support of Simon and Chris, the beam has now been safely removed, allowing our companions and staff to continue with improvement works.”
The charity is using the national lockdowns as an opportunity to refurbish their community home and Secondhand Superstore.
The Longlands Mill building, built in 1871, requires ongoing maintenance and development to safeguard its future and meet the needs of the Emmaus Mossley charity.
