Engineering rail works in Stalybridge

Engineering work on the railway at the Stalybridge Tunnel will take place over Christmas.

Network Rail engineers will be working around the clock from 11pm on December 23 to 6am on December 27.

Public footpaths on Spring Street and Stamford Street will be closed while work is carried out.

In a letter to local residents, Network Rail said: “This may not seem like the most suitable time of year; however, as there are no trains running on the network on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, we use this time to carry out essential work. This helps us keep disruption to train services at other times of the year to a minimum.”

Network Rail also used the letter to apologise for any disturbance the works might cause over Christmas.

If residents have any questions about the works, they can contact Network Rail on their 24 hour helpline, 03457 11 41 41, or via www.networkrail.co.uk/contact
