Egging incidents in Ashton are 'getting more dangerous'

A woman attacked in an egging incident thought she’d ‘been shot’ and another almost loses her sight.

The latest in a series of egging's happened Saturday 14 August on Kings Road in Ashton-under-Lyne. Two men driving a white car threw an egg at a young woman on the pavement.

Hitting her in the face, the impact of the projectile cracked her glasses.

She added: “My glasses flew off my face and I was completely disorientated, a neighbour thought I’d been hit by acid because of the egg and blood caused by cuts from the eggshells.

“The car must have been travelling 40-50mph and speeding down that road. I do feel lucky that I had my glasses on because when I went to Specsavers, they confirmed that if I hadn’t had them, I’d have lost my vision or suffered a life-changing injury to my sight.”

She spoke to the police, and they classed it as a section 47 assault but have yet to take their investigation further.

Months earlier, another woman was hit in the stomach by an egg on Lees Road in Ashton-under-Lyne.

She said: “It was thrown with such force that I thought I’d been shot at first, as silly as that sounds. I reported it to the police at the time but as they are so thin on the ground these days it wasn’t a priority.

“It seems like it’s getting more dangerous though as hitting someone in the eye can be catastrophic.”
