Dukinfield man handed suspended jail term

Tameside Magistrates' Court have given a Dukinfield man a suspended jail term for theft.

The court heard James Whitehead, of Old Church Mews, had stolen items worth £1,100 from Alma Accident and Repair Centre in Dukinfield, plus he had committed a string of thefts from the town's B&M Bargains store.

The thefts had happened in August and September.

The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to all of the charges including an offence of carrying a Stanley knife in public in Ashton earlier this month.

Magistrates handed him a four-month jail sentence, suspended for a year.

He must also carry out 100 hours unpaid work and pay a total of £317.80 compensation.
