Dukinfield centre looking forward to the year award

There are busy times ahead for the Together Centre in Dukinfield as it welcomes people back through its doors in 2022.

Not only is the centre, at Loxley House, on Birch Lane, holding workshops, sessions, games and events for people in the area, it is also providing a number of free home-cooked meals to families in the local community for 12 weeks.

The meals can either be delivered or enjoyed at the Together Cafe.

The Together Centre itself is an inclusive charity which provides opportunities for local families and communities in Tameside.

The staff at the centre encourage residents to get involved and are hoping people will join in the many activities they have planned over the coming months.

Some of these activities include events for older people.

Centre manager Leanne Bold said: “As people age, they often find themselves spending more time alone. Being alone may leave older adults more vulnerable to loneliness and social isolation, which will also affect their health and well-being.

“To help tackle this locally, The Together Centre is providing a variety of free meaningful support services and workshops throughout the winter months.

“Our amazing volunteers will be delivering inclusive peer support workshops weekly, providing the opportunity for new friendships.”

There will be Talking Teacup Bingo every Wednesday from 1-2pm, with a free meal provided at noon and a Crafty Corner every Thursday from 11am-noon, again with a free meal provided at noon.

Leanne added: “For participants who may be unable to attend our sessions and/or the centre for various reasons - health and well-being, those returning from stays in hospital and/or should we experience further national lockdowns - a ‘Craft-at-Home’ pack will be delivered weekly along with the free hot meal.

“Taking part in the workshops is not essential, you can of course just enjoy a free meal on us!”
