Droylsden woman opens baking business in lockdown

A Droylsden woman beat lockdown blues by starting her own baking business.

Zoe Wingfield had never baked a cake before lockdown.

Now the 22-year-old is creating stunning sweet treats for sale in Tameside and Glossop.

‘Zoe’s Little Bakes’ is a labour of love offering unique celebration cakes, cookies, brownies and cupcakes.

On her remarkable learning curve, Zoe added: “There’s highs and lows of trying to get a baking business off the ground. It’s hard to put your name out there, but despite everything I haven’t given up.

“This really is a passion of mine. Baking got me through lockdown and stopped me going out of my mind. I cooked for self-isolating friends and left cake boxes at their door.

“I’ve learnt everything from YouTube and TikTok and did a cake course in November at Zara Cakes. This industry is really one where people want you to succeed and bakers help each other.”

Zoe fits all her baking around a full-time job and uses every spare minute to continue honing her skills and creating bespoke designs for customers.

She added: “I’m always honest to customers about what I can achieve, and I won’t lead them on if I don’t think I can do the best job possible.”

Living in Droylsden, she’s helped by her boyfriend in delivering cakes around the borough and isn’t opposed to catering for hard-to-reach places.

Zoe’s dream is to one day own a baking business and having already shown such perseverance, there’s no doubt her ambitions will be achieved.
