Droylsden denied point in dying seconds on last day of the season

Droylsden were denied a point in the dying seconds of the season as Prescot Cables snatched a 94th minute winner at the Butchers Arms

Evo-Stik West

Droylsden 2-3 Prescot Cables

Droylsden ended their season in the Evo-Stik West with a 3-2 defeat to Prescot Cables.

Despite bringing the season to a close, the game was a real classic with moments of excellence and plenty of endeavour.

Prescot entered the game having narrowly missed out on the playoffs, but they took the lead at the Butchers Arms in the opening five minutes. Jordan Southworth capitalised on a loose ball inside the box and slotted past Thompson in goal.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 52nd minute. After Kline-Davies' effort had struck the bar, Chris Almond was first to react and struck his effort into the top corner.

Prescot should have been 3-0 up shortly after, but Kline-Davies forced a great stop from Thompson. The scare spurred Droylsden into life, and they pulled one back in the 58th minute. Sefton Gonzales rose like a salmon and powered home Aaron Burgess' cross.

Prescot were awarded a penalty in the 74th minute, but Almond's effort struck the post and was cleared of danger.

The missed penalty provided Droylsden with a route back into the game, and with the clock ticking down in the final few minutes, Sefton Gonzales levelled matters. However, the striker's 92nd minute effort proved to be in vain, as Almond fired home in the 94th minute to secure his side all three points.

Droylsden have ended their season in 14th spot, while Prescot finish just three points outside the playoffs.
