Downright Special Charity success

The Carmody family held a special fundraising event at the Fairfield Arms pub in Audenshaw.

They have now raised more than £4,800 for the Downs Syndrome Association (DSA).

The Carmodys received help and information from the charity when their son, Lucas, was diagnosed with Down’s syndrome shortly after his birth.

They still receive educational guidance and information from the DSA as Lucas progresses through mainstream school in Droylsden.

To give something back they held ‘Lucas’ Downright Special Charity Event’ at the weekend.

Sarah Carmody said: “We had a great day and were totally overwhelmed by all the people who attended to support us.

“We would like to thank the Fairfield Arms for having us and we would like to thank all our lovely volunteers who helped us to raise money and keep the day/night running smoothly.

“We couldn’t have done it without them!

“Also, the mascots from Mascots Hire and the fantastic face painting by A Face to Remember.

“We would also like to thank everyone who donated fantastic prizes, including Stuart Thornley Cake Design who donated a DSA themed cake which was fantastic.

“Finally, a big thank you to Buzz Hawkins for travelling all the way from Lancaster to entertain us.

“He was fantastic as always and we had a lot of laughs.”

Among other special guests at the event last Saturday were the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Janet Cooper and her Consort Dennis Fitzpatrick.
