Double celebration at Denton West library

Denton MP Andrew Gwynne was at Denton West End Community Library last Saturday to help volunteers celebrate the library’s sixth birthday.

Tameside Council Leader and Denton councillor Brenda Warrington was also at the event to mark the celebrations. They both praised the community for running the library.

“Thanks to the amazing volunteers who keep this community asset for Dane Bank going,” said Andrew Gwynne.

He also congratulated the library group of volunteers after they were presented with a Quality in Action Award from Action Together.

The award is an independent local seal of approval, which publicly demonstrates the volunteer group’s commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement.

The library had been threatened with closure in 2012, resulting in the formation of The Friends of Denton West End Library.

The Friends fought to safeguard the library and worked towards it being gifted to the community to run. Subsequently, in June 2013 the charity ‘Denton West End Community Library’  completed purchase of the building from Tameside Council, and six years on continues to provide a complete Library and Community Service.
