Denton MP appointed Public Health Minister

Andrew Gwynne, MP for Gorton & Denton, has been appointed as a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Public Health in the Department for Health & Social Care.

The appointment, made by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, was approved by the King today, July 9. This follows Labour’s victory in the general election, where Gwynne was returned as the member for the newly formed Gorton & Denton constituency.

Gwynne said: “I am honoured to have been asked by the Prime Minister to serve as Public Health Minister in the Department for Health & Social Care.

“From protecting future generations from the dangers of smoking, tackling childhood obesity, reducing gambling harms, battling health inequalities, ending new HIV cases, or ensuring a laser-like focus on prevention across our health system, this is an area with real potential to have a fundamental impact on people's lives.

“I look forward to working with our great ministerial team and playing my part in delivering the change people across our country voted for.”

He gives Tameside a prominent presence in the cabinet as he joins Jonathan Reynolds who is Secretary of State for Business and Trade and Angela Rayner who is Deputy Prime Minister.
