In his latest column, Tameside Radio presenter Dave Sweetmore shines the spotlight on the band Afternoon People - who will feature on his next show on Monday at 7pm.
Observing the size of the fan base Afternoon People have built up in such a small space of time, it’s clear to see there is something very special about these lads.
A true to themselves, proper, indie rock ‘n’ roll band, with no intentions of being anyone else, they are Afternoon People, and proud.
Formed in North Manchester just 18 months ago, the band were already no strangers to the music scene.
Learning their craft at various gigs and studios, being in the right places, and meeting the right people, the band, consisting of Finley Corcoran (vocals and guitar), Mason Wilding (bass), Dylan Murphy (drums), and Jack Cordingley (guitar), had already become known faces on the scene.
Playing at Manchester’s only outside festival of 2020, MMFest, at the International Irish Heritage Centre, the sold out (reduced capacity) crowd were already chanting the band’s name and cheering before they had even taken to the stage.
The band have quickly found themselves managed by well-known and respected event promoter and band manager Anton Pell, who has just released a brilliant book about his life, which is well worth a read, ‘The Life & Times Of A Grass Route Music Promoter’.
Afternoon People’s debut single ‘Sovereign’ was released in February, and has already received a huge amount of radio play and rave reviews, and having appeared on cult Manchester TV channel MMTV before the single had even been recorded, they had proved a statement from a band with big intentions.
The single is the first of a few the lads have lined up for release, and as far as debut singles go, it’s massive.
It’s no secret how amazing the new music scene is in general at the moment, but with the band’s looks, attitude, music, and huge loyal fan base, Afternoon People have all they need to become Manchester’s next great Rock n Roll stars.
