Daisy Dewsnap: Why healthier means happier

Fifteen-year-old Daisy, who lives in Mossley and attends Saddleworth School, writes for the Reporter and Chronicle...

During quarantine, many people have been trying to change small things about their lifestyle.

Some people have become more grateful for the small things, some people have realised they’re great at baking banana bread, some people have taken up new hobbies.

I know lots of people, including myself, who have started taking steps towards living a healthier and more positive life after lockdown.

For this week’s article, I’ll be outlining five of the healthy habits that you can start incorporating into your daily routines and everyday life.

The great outdoors

The first habit is to get outside every day. This was quite difficult at the beginning of lockdown as we were limited with how long we could spend outside in public areas etc but then the lockdown rules eased so we were able to spend much more time outdoors.

Being outside reduces our blood pressure and lowers our heart rate too, as well as being scientifically proven to improve our mood and reduces feelings of anxiety. This means that the more time we spend outside, the more happy and positive our mindset will be!

Water is wonderful

The second habit is drinking lots of water. There are so many benefits to this! It improves your skin complexion, flushes out toxins, increases energy and relieves fatigue.

Fruit is delicious

The third habit you can add to your routine is snacking on fruit. It’s so easy to just grab a pack of crisps when you’re hungry, but fruit is an excellent source of essential vitamins and minerals. It is also very high in fibre, as well as being absolutely delicious!

Relax and reflect

Another habit is to allocate five minutes each day to just sit and reflect on the day. This allows you to celebrate every little success that’s happened and also set goals for the following day. What could you improve? What might you do better?

Wake up - to Tameside Radio

The final habit that you can do is wake up early. Being a morning person, I tend to get much more things done in the mornings so I like to wake up as early as I can which will lead on to the most productive outcome for the day. You will also be more tired in the evenings, making it easier to sleep; therefore creating a better sleep schedule, which will have a positive impact on both your physical and mental health.

There are so many habits that we can do, these are only five of them, which will lead us towards a healthier and more positive lifestyle!!
