Curzon hit for five on last day of the season

It was a day to forget for Curzon Ashton, who were beaten 5-0 by Spennymoor Town on the last day of the season

National League North

Curzon Ashton 0-5 Spennymoor Town

Curzon Ashton were made to taste a fourth consecutive league defeat as Spennymoor Town ran riot in a 5-0 victory on the last day of the season in the National League North.

The visitors, who will host Bradford Park Avenue in the playoff eliminator on Wednesday, took an early lead at the Tameside Stadium through Glen Taylor. The hosts failed to clear a corner efficiently and the resulting ball was played back into the box where Taylor was on hand to head home past Mason.

Curzon rarely threatened in the first half but they had a great chance to equalise in the 40th minute. Reece Deakin received the ball from Chris Rowney but lost his composure and hit wide of the target.

John McAtee came close to scoring on the stroke of half-time, but his effort flew just over cross bar to the relief of goalkeeper Matthew Gould.

Curzon's efforts to find an equaliser proved to be in vain, as with virtually the last piece of play int he first half Spennymoor scored a second. Jacob Hibbs darted forward before chipping the onrushing Cameron Mason with real class.

Despite being two goals down, the Nash responded well in the early stages of the second half and came close through efforts from Rowney and Luke Wall. However, for all their early dominance, Spennymoor grabbed a third to kill the game off in the 53rd minute. Ramshaw danced his way into the box before rounding Mason and slotting home.

The visitors were far from done, and their search for a fourth was rewarded in the 66th minute. Curzon were unable to deal with a corner effectively, and Scott Harrison nipped in and fired home from close range.

Curzon were hit for five with three minutes remaining. Adam Boyes was left unmarked at the back post, and he cooly finished from 12 yards out.
