Curzon aim for back-to-back league victories

Curzon Ashton travel to Southport this evening following their opening day 5-0 victory over Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday.

It was the dream start for Mark Bradshaw's side, who swept away Avenue with a five-star performance at the Tameside Stadium.

The Nash will now be looking to further cement their credentials at Haig Avenue against a Southport outfit who were held to a 0-0 draw at Gateshead on Saturday.

The Sandgrounders, managed by club legend Liam Watson, finished four places and four points above Curzon last season. When the two sides met in Merseyside in october 2018, the points were shared in a 2-2 draw. James Baillie suffered a major injury and has since been sidelined from the action.

Southport will be hoping for a much-improved finish this season as the club look to return to the National League - a division they competed in as early as 2017.

It's hard to assess the strengths and weaknesses of a side after just one game, but judging by Curzon's conviction in front of goal on Saturday, coupled with Southport's stringent defence -hailed by Watson as 'physically strong' - you'd expect a tight game this evening.
