Create centre rises again like a phoenix from the pandemic

The Tameside Arts Create Centre in Denton launched its new and improved home and its very own Café last Friday.

The centre has new signage and new eye-catching lighting to promote and enhance its appearance as it looks to extend its good work not only at its Market Street, Denton base, but out into the wider community across the town.

Chair and Trustee Carla Stokes said: “As Chair and a Trustee, I am so very proud of what we have achieved at our Centre and for me personally, I can honestly say that being part of Tameside Arts Ltd has enriched my life especially as my senior years progress and I am so looking forward to what is going to be a positive and exciting future.”

Carla added: “We are so looking forward to holding some super social events as we rise, like a phoenix from the ashes from the dreaded pandemic which has made life so difficult for everyone.

“We had some amazing plans which were supported by a wonderful bid from The National Lottery Community Fund, for which we were extremely grateful.

“These plans however were somewhat scuppered by Covid but we continued to fully support our members virtually by offering storytelling, movement, dance and quizzes, art and craft sessions. Zoom became everyone’s friend and got us through these difficult times.

Carla explained: “The National Lottery Community Fund have been superbly supportive by allowing us time to heal before we can continue with our endeavours and to expand our centre as originally planned.”

The centre has recently obtained an alcohol licence and have installed CCTV with appropriate signage, to keep members and the public secure when attending events.

“So the future is looking bright, colourful and positive and we are ready to open The Daisy Chain Café and Dizzy Daisy Bar,” added Carla.

“We really want it to be used by the Community! This includes mainstream and specialist activities and events.”

The CREATE Centre is an accessible, adaptable community arts organisation for everyone in Denton.

The centre offers daytime and evening groups, after-school and weekend clubs and upcoming events include murder mystery nights, neon life drawing, art and craft courses, comedy nights, coffee mornings, community choir and open mike nights.

While the Daisy Chain Café offers affordable meals, snacks and drinks where everyone is welcome, especially people who are on their own and would appreciate a chat. The centre also runs a catering training programme.

The centre invites artists and crafters to sell or display their creations at the centre. Groups can hire the spaces, including the drama / dance / music space, cinema screen, café-space, art zone and sensory room. A disabled toilet and hoist changing room is available.
