Council seek public opinions for Statement of Community Involvement

Tameside Council is seeking the public's views to help it update its Statement of Community Involvement (SCI).

The SCI sets out how the council will involve the community, stakeholders and other organisations in the planning application process and in the preparation and revision of local planning policy documents.

The current SCI was adopted in 2016. Local Planning Authorities are required to carry out a review of their SCIs every five years from the adoption date. There have been a number of changes to planning legislation, policy and guidance that need to be reflected in this update.

There is also a need for the SCI to reflect the measures put in place to combat the spread of coronavirus and their implications for planning-related consultations. The draft statement has been prepared to ensure effective community engagement can continue, while social distancing has to be observed.

Tameside Council welcomes comments on any of the detail included within the updated SCI, including on the techniques and methods of engagement proposed. The draft updated SCI as well as the current SCI can be viewed at https://www.tameside.gov.uk/planning/ldf/sci2020

The consultation will last for six weeks from Thursday, August 20 to Thursday, October 1.

It should be noted that comments cannot be treated as confidential.

Comments can be submitted electronically by completing an online form at https://www.tameside.gov.uk/planning/ldf/sci2020

Alternatively comments can be emailed to planpolicy@tameside.gov.uk or returned by post to Planning Policy, PO Box 304, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL6 0GA. All comments must arrive by 5pm, Thursday, October 1.

For more information contact the Planning Policy Team at planpolicy@tameside.gov.uk or on 0161 342 4460 and leaving a message for the Planning Policy Team.
