Community shop in Mossley calls for your help

Shop manager Mandi Cunningham with assistant manager Tom Ingham.

A popular charity shop in Mossley has been chosen to benefit from a cash boost.

Mossley Community Shop on Stockport Road raises funds for community groups and good causes in the town. Now the enterprise has been chosen to gain from the Co-op Local Community Fund.

The shop sells a variety of second-hand goods and has a small range of pet supplies on sale.

The shop also sells new cleaning products, toiletries, handbags and purses.

Shop manager Mandi Cunningham said: “As you can imagine, the last 18 months have been really challenging for small, charitable groups like ours.

“The pandemic has drastically affected our fundraising efforts, so we’re grateful to have this partnership with the local Co-op.

“We’re urging local members to choose us as their cause so we can deliver our project and help more people in Mossley.

“We’re raising funds to put straight back into the local groups and projects that do something great for the people of our community.

“This year we were lucky enough to lend our support to the local food bank, the Whit Friday Band and also a children’s Halloween party hosted by another local business

“Any support from the Co-op Local Community Fund will in turn help more local groups continue to deliver their fantastic services to all in Mossley and the surrounding areas.”

The community fund works when members buy selected Co-op branded products and services, one pence from every pound spent goes to support local causes such as the community shop.

Mandi added: “Co-op members can select us as their local cause by visiting https://co-operate.coop.co.uk/groups/mossley-community-shop/.

“We really hope that people will visit the Co-op website or download the Co-op app and select us as their Local Community Fund cause so we can continue making a difference.”

The community shop, which has two part-time staff and five volunteers, is on Stockport Road and is open Monday-Friday 9am-4pm and Saturday 10am-4pm.

It is always on the lookout for more donations and would like more clothes, shoes, paperbacks, kitchen items and baby goods.
