Christmas comes early in Mossley

Homelessness charity, Emmaus Mossley, is inviting supporters to a Vintage Christmas Market charity sale at their Secondhand Superstore this weekend.

The Vintage Christmas Market, taking place on Saturday, will launch Emmaus’ Christmas display and include a range of festive stalls for all tastes and budgets. 

There will be a wide selection of vintage and retro decorations, secret Santa gifts, presents for under a fiver and lots of reusable Christmas trees.

Gary Barton, one of the community members at Emmaus Mossley, said: “Our Christmas events are always great fun and I really enjoy seeing supporters, fellow companions, volunteers and staff getting in the festive spirit. 

"There’ll be lots on offer for all ages throughout the day including a special visit from Santa.”

Emmaus Mossley supports 26 formerly homeless people by providing them with a home and work in a community setting. The charity runs a social enterprise in Mossley, selling donated and upcycled furniture, household goods, clothes and vintage wares. All the proceeds from the Vintage Christmas Market will support the people who live and work at Emmaus.

In addition to the Christmas-themed stalls, the Collectables Room will be open and Santa will be visiting Emmaus’ Secondhand Superstore. 

Lucie’s Café will be serving seasonal food and drinks throughout the day, and they’ll be a few limited external stall holders too.

Hazel Hodkinson, retail manager at Emmaus Mossley, said: “Christmastime can create a lot of waste and consumption, but here at Emmaus we’re keen to promote, reuse and celebrate second-hand.

“Our Vintage Christmas Market is the perfect opportunity to source a wide variety of pre-loved decorations, affordable gifts, festive fare and materials for those who enjoy creating handmade gifts. 

“We hope lots of people will join us on the day to have fun, bag some bargains and support give their support to Emmaus Mossley.”

The Vintage Christmas Market will take place on Saturday from 9am to 4.30pm at Emmaus Mossley, Longlands Mill, Queen Street, Mossley OL5 9AH. 

Emmaus Mossley will also have a Christmas Pop-up Shop at The Weavers Factory in Uppermill on Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8.
