Ceremony held to honour police officers killed in Hattersley

A ceremony was held this weekend (Saturday 18 September) to remember two police officers killed in the line of duty in Hattersley nine years ago.

On 18 September 2012, Police Constables Nicola Hughes, 23, and Fiona Bone, 32, were killed by Dale Cregan in a gun and grenade ambush while responding to a hoax burglary at Abbey Gardens in Hattersley.

The anniversary of their deaths took place this weekend with people being invited to go to library entrance of The Hub on Stockport Road to take a moment to reflect and remember them.

The day included speeches and the laying of flowers, as well as refreshments and was organised by the Hattersley and Mottram Community Forum.

The Civic Mayor of Tameside Janet Cooper and consort Dennis Fitzpatrick both attended to pay their respects, as well as MP for Stalybridge Jonathon Reynolds.

This was a beautiful ceremony for those who attended, giving those affected the chance to honour the lives that were lost.
