Cases of Coronavirus fall across Tameside

Cases of coronavirus are falling across Tameside with dips in all three of the borough’s major hotspots.

The latest infection rate per 100,000 people is 413 as of Sunday, a 16 pc drop from the previous week, suggesting the latest four week lockdown which came into force on November 5 is starting to have an impact.

Government statistics show that cases are falling on average in hard-hit locations all across the borough.

The biggest hotspot in Tameside, Ashton Central, recorded 49 cases in the week to November 10.

This was up by one incidence from the previous week, but remains a slight decline from the peak during October where 53 cases occurred in the week to October 13.

The downward trend can also be seen in the joint second highest areas, Droylsden East and Droylsden Central which both recorded 44 cases in the seven days to November 10.

Cases in Droylsden East have dipped from a high of 46, while Droylsden Central has seen a dramatic drop from 63 cases in the week to October 27.

The third highest area for infections was Denton South, with 42, followed by Hyde South with 41 in the seven days to November 10.

Council leader Brenda Warrington has urged residents to stick to the rules during this latest lockdown period to help suppress the virus.

“It is a difficult situation for everyone of us and I know that people are struggling,” she said.

“But we have to comply wholeheartedly with all of those restrictions that we’re under now that we’ve gone into a second lockdown which is so important to bring this virus down.

“We have to defeat it. We have to save lives, we absolutely must protect the NHS so that they are not overwhelmed and of course what we also have to do is support our local traders.

“They need our trade and we need to look after them and look after each other.”

Testing sites are open across Tameside from between 10.30am to 3.30pm at various locations throughout November.

From Wednesday, November 18 to Friday, November 20 there will be a testing centre at Curzon Ashton AFC, Tameside Stadium on Richmond Street in Ashton-under-Lyne.

The following week a testing station will be in place at Active Medlock on Gardenfold Way in Droylsden from November 26-28.

On November 28-29, testing will be taking place at Hyde Leisure Pool on Walker Lane in Hyde.

These sites are in addition to the semi-permanent testing site at Darnton Road in Ashton which remains open and available to book every day 8am to 8pm, with on-site car parking. Tests may also be available at the Etihad Stadium.
