Carrbrook community comes together for big spring clean

More than 50 people of all ages joined forces to arm themselves with litter pickers for a huge Easter spring clean in Stalybridge.

The clean-up call was the inspiration of Rosemary Makin and residents rallied for the Carrbrook community cause to fill two council vans with rubbish.

“It was a good turn-out and everything ran smoothly and I would like to thank everyone who came out and helped,” said Rosemary.

The clean-up was supported by Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club who provided free Easter eggs for those taking part, with 33 eggs given out on the day.

Rosemary had special thanks too for Lisa Doherty at Raja Bros Express on Huddersfield Road, Carrbrook, for the store’s support.

Lisa provided bottles of water for the litter pickers, plus hot dogs and buns.

Special thanks also go to Michelle Power for providing litter pickers and making some 40 butties which were all appreciated by the litter picking team, who stayed in their bubbles and abided by the Covid safety rules.

Rosemary thanked Cllr Jan Jackson too for organising litter picking equipment and bags through the council, plus the two council vans which took away literally dozens of black sacks full of rubbish.

“I’d also like to thank Bren and Ian from the Rotary for providing the marquee and giving out the eggs,” added Rosemary.

Residents have been getting in touch to thank the clean-up team to say what a difference they have made to the area, while others have already been asking when the next clean-up will be taking place.

“We’ll certainly do another one after the success of this and will look at doing that in the summer,” said Rosemary.

The spring clean took place on Saturday 27 March.
