Carrbrook community clean-up

Residents are planning a cracking spring clean-up in time for Easter - with Easter eggs on offer to youngsters.

The Carrbrook spring clean is earmarked for March 27, with volunteers encouraged to go along to a marquee which will be placed on the car park at Raja’s store on Huddersfield Road, Stalybridge.

Rosemary Makin is the inspiration behind the Carrbrook community clean-up.

Residents and anyone interested in making the community a cleaner place to live are invited to arrive at 1pm when each person will be given a litter picker, gloves and resources to collect litter and allocated an area to clean.

Each child who gets involved will also be given an Easter egg, kindly donated by the Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club, who will have a presence on the day and volunteer at the site.

Cllr Jan Jackson has assisted with the resources required and will arrange for the waste gathered to be collected by Tameside Council.

Refreshments will be provided and it promises to be an excellent community event.

Strict Government guidance for safety and risk will be applied on the day.

Cllr Jan Jackson said: “Rose has worked really hard to organise this community clean- up in Carrbrook, to bring our communities together to make a difference.

“Carrbrook is a wonderful place to live but is made grim by individuals dumping their rubbish and fly tipping.

“Hopefully the activity of volunteers seen litter picking will drive home a strong message - fly tipping and the dumping of any waste is not welcome in our community.”

Meanwhile, Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club have been busy collecting Easter eggs for local groups, organisations and the disadvantaged and, to date, donations have poured in.

For every egg donated, the club will match it with more than 400 eggs collected so far and counting.

It’s still not too late to donate and eggs can be dropped off at Ashton-under-Lyne Golf Club, or call Steve on 07846 570743 or Judi on 07478 946454.
