Busy Barbara's grand gesture in Mossley

One Mossley resident has certainly been busy brightening up the town during lockdown.

Barbara Anderton (pictured), 82, has been crocheting colourful rainbows to display in homes across the town.

Not only has she made 170 rainbows and 850 pom-poms, she has also raised a magnificent £1,000 for Mossley Foodbank at the same time.

She said: “Since I reached £1,000 for the foodbank I’ve had a few more orders and the money is now going to St George’s Church funds.

“I’ve also been making ‘fairy rainbows’ for children and grandchildren which I’ve been selling for church funds. They are just half-size ones.

“I just want to thank everyone who supported my effort. It’s been fun making the rainbows during lockdown and I know they have given pleasure to a lot of people.

“Thanks to an anonymous donation, we now have six rainbows hanging in church.”

The vicar of Mossley Rev David Warner said: “I’m so grateful for Barbara’s achievement - the rainbows are beautiful and remind us that after the storm comes the sunshine.

“We have made weekly deliveries to Mossley foodbank throughout lockdown, and I’ve calculated that, including Barbara’s great total, more than £2,000 of cash and goods have been donated by parishioners.

“Thank you Barbara, thank you everyone who has supported and thank you to Mossley foodbank volunteers for your inspiring work.”
