Braving the shave for cancer charity

A Dukinfield company is throwing their full support behind an employee who’s braving the shave to raise money for Macmillan.

Angie Roberts has got her colleagues at Vitafoam involved in her fundraising efforts and plans to host a day of sponsored events in her workplace on August 27.

Planned for the day is a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses, a tombola, a hair-related picture quiz and finally, Angie will be shaving her head in front of a live audience.

On her inspiration for taking on this herculean challenge, she said: “My partner initially joked about doing Brave the Shave after an advert came on TV. I thought about it some more and thought about the amount of family I’ve lost to cancer and realised the shave is something I could do.

“In October of last year, I did 400,000 steps for breast cancer and raised £365. It’s a great amount, but for shaving my hair I wanted to receive more donations, so that’s when I got work involved and my manager decided to make a day of it.”

Angie has already begun preparing for the shave by purchasing wigs and wearing them into work.

She added: “The response I’ve had from the workforce is amazing. Wearing the wigs to work were really a test for me to see if I could handle it and if people would notice.

“When I told colleagues my reason for doing the shave, they were really shocked. They’re incredibly supportive and I’m feeling excited about doing the shave and raising money for such a good cause.”
