Bowl along to Denton Carnival

It's all systems go for this Sunday's Denton Carnival, when none other than the Starchaser Rocket will be landing to help ensure the day goes with a bang.

A fantastic line up this year includes the traditional parade stretching from Haughton Green to Victoria Park, plus live performances at the band stand, fairground rides and games, food and drink stalls, face painting, glitter tattoos and more.

Prizes will also be up for grabs for the best contributions! This year’s parade will start from Mancunian Road, Denton, at 12.30pm, before winding its way along Two Trees Lane, Stockport Road, Manchester Road, Acre Street and Duke Street, with family fun activities taking place in Victoria Park.

Denton Park Social Bowling Club will be among the local groups proudly supporting this year’s carnival. The club is hosting an “Open Invitation Drawn Mixed couples” event of its own at Victoria Park on the day - registration is at 10.30am and the competition starts at 11am.

Winners and runners-up prizes will be presented by  the club’s Honorary President, Andrew Gwynne, MP.

Since a heartbreaking arson attack in 2017 and  vandalism in 2018 on the crown green, the club have bowled back to support the carnival - as they now look to expand.

With the relaunch of Denton Park Social Club early this year, the club’s 2019 season has proved highly successful.

The ladies team returned to achieve third place in the Tameside Ladies League and due to high interest the club are now looking to form a second ladies squad to start in the 2020 season.

The club enjoyed further success with Veterans A team Captain Barry Sutcliffe claiming the winners title in Tameside’s Veterans league.

This year also saw the first ever  mixed squad in the club’s history playing their matches in the Longdendale Saturday League.

The club welcomes all section of the community to join for social bowling sessions and has developed social events throughout  the year.
