Birds of prey fly into Droylsden school

A flock of feathered friends flew into a school in Droylsden recently.

St Mary's CE Primary School held a Birds of Prey event which coincided with the school taking part in the Big Garden Watch.

The youngsters were treated to a whole host of majestic birds which dropped into the school hall.

Head teacher of the Church Street school, Miss Kathryn Hampson, said the day went brilliantly.

She commented: "It was fabulous. The children and staff all really enjoyed it. It was very informative.

"The most memorable part, I am sure, was the Harris Hawk which flew around the hall landing on the basketball net, stage lights, in fact anything high up!

"The hawk also flew from one side of the hall through the raised arms of Mr Newall, just touching his hair, to the handler. It was a scary moment!"
