Barge blaze at Droylsden Marina

Fire crews were required to put out a blaze on a barge at Droylsden Marina on the Ashton Canal.

It happened in the early hours of the morning on Monday 9 August.

A local resident captured a video of the fire - the cause of which is unknown.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At approximately 12.50am on Monday 9 August, two fire engines from Ashton-under-Lyne, the Water Incident Unit from Eccles and the Technical Response Unit from Leigh were called to a fire on Edmund Street, in Droylsden.

“The fire involved a barge on the canal side. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

“Fire crews were at the scene for around two hours.”
